Providing appropriate management training
In terms of staff mindset, forensic service organisations traditionally resemble universities or craft associations. Their leaders tend to be appointed more for their subject-matter expertise and pre-eminence in their field than for their managerial qualities or experience.
In today’s increasingly business-like and speed-oriented society, this can lead to problems – not only because the organisation is not managed as well as it could be, but also because its best scientists are unable to give their full attention to their scientific work.
The NFI has tackled this dilemma by introducing business management techniques, and developing a special MBA-like Programme in Forensic Governance for its senior managers.
